Writing Poetry - OctPoWriMo

If you love to write poetry, you love a good poetry challenge, and you are missing April's NaPoWriMo then you are in the right place. There are now multiple Novel writing months and it is past time we added another Poetry month. October is a great time to challenge poets to a poem a day for thirty one days.

It is easy to participate, all you have to do is show up daily and link up with your poetry post for the day. You can grab the badge on this page or check out more poetry badges and link it back to here to let others know about the challenge. If you need inspiration you can check out our Daily Poetry Prompts that begin October 1st, but you can write from your own inspiration as well. Visit at least a few of your Poetry neighbors (a couple links before and after your links on the link up, if you are at the end start at the beginning) and you can share the link up on your page because we have set it up to be a blog hop. Make sure you tweet with the hashtag #OctPoWriMo to let everyone know when you have a new poem posted!

It is that simple. The challenge begins October 1st. and goes through October 31st. We look forward to reading and sharing poetry with you!

Since we began this challenge in 2012, many poets/writers have participated in this challenge both on and offline. The one thing that really sticks out for me, besides all of the sharing and interaction between the poets, is how much the poets/writers stretch their writing during this challenge, how deep they take it, how much it pushes them to take their words that much further. I also love how every single person is accepted, inspired and encouraged no matter where they are in their poetry, whether they are brand new or have been writing for years. I look forward to exploring poetry with you!

If you would like to share your past experiences with OctPoWriMo as a guest post or included as a quote in one of our posts during September, email Morgan Dragonwillow at morgan _ dragonwillow @ hotmail . com (make sure you take out the spaces) with OctPoWriMo in the subject line.

  1. It would be helpful to have a list of the daily prompts to get the creative juices flowing. I just finished the Haiku Heights Sept. challenge and it was helpful to have the prompts for the month on my calendar.
It's just a thought...maybe you write the prompts as you post them...I understand.
I just found your site...thru Leo. I have been working...tho I'm retired and time to read my emails has been of the essence.
This is an interesting idea you have for the prompts...I hope it catches on. A few participants lead to many.
    Peace,
