New Beginnings: Our OctPoWriMo Poetry Writing Adventure Begins... Now

Julie and Morgan are very excited to welcome you to the OctPoWriMo Poetry Challenge of 31 Poems in 31 Days!

We each wanted to welcome you in our own words to this poetry journey.

Morgan Dragonwillow: About a month ago this challenge began to take shape and I am thrilled that so many of you have decided to join Julie and I on this spectacular voyage. The day that we have all been excitedly, nervously, joyfully anticipating is here and it is time to begin this wonderful challenge. I would ask thought that you put aside the term "challenge" for now and think of it as a fantastic adventure full of possibilities.

I am looking forward to getting to know each of you through your poetry, chatting on Twitter using the hashtag #OctPoWriMo and in our Writing Poetry Group on Facebook.

Allow yourself to feel hope for the new day and that is exactly where we will begin.

Julie Jordan Scott: Our prompts will be arriving at Midnight Eastern time for the 31 days of October. You may write to the prompt or write something else completely. Our aim is to provide you with inspiration and writing energy throughout the month.

All of what we write is optional. The poems YOU write will be miracles on the page. One of our OctPoWriMo poets had a poetry writing miracle yesterday. I want more of that, don’t you?

If you would like to participate in a twitterchat, let us know. I know I make great friends during chats. Let us know if you would like to participate at these "parties". We'll schedule one on any day except for Friday.

Prompt #1: I am reminded of the quote by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe: “Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!”
Your participation in this OctPoWriMo challenge (experience, project, adventure – insert whichever inspires you or one of your own we have yet to list) has magic attached.

Taking this step, writing your words and giving them a home, is both your new beginning and your everyday continuation throughout our adventure.

Start  your poems today, right now or a couple hours from now. You may get 31 perfect pearl poems. You may get thirty poems you can’t tolerate and one… gem. Whichever happens is just right.

Let’s follow the wisdom of Mother Teresa and start letting our poems arrive on the page. She said, “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”

Sitting here at alone at my desk knowing you are there - with me, gives me such a rush of word-love energy. I know the satisfaction of writing a poem that + you feels so good to me!

Let's begin writing poems here now.

Remember: Each prompt is 100% optional. You may be inspired by some and others, you may choose to set aside. What is most important? Yes. Thirty One Poems in thirty one days.

Word Prompt: Beginnings

Sentence Starter(s):

When I begin something new....
New beginnings remind me....
Right now, as we begin, I feel.....

Brimming with Anticipation, Word-love, and Excitement,

  1. Hurray! The big day is here. :)

Thanks to you & Julie for all the hard work you put into laying the foundation for OctPoWriMo.

Sure! A Twitter chat would be fun. What about 9-10 EST on Thursday? We might be able to steer some folks from StoryDam chat on over into it.

    Just a thought!

    3. Beginnings

      I love beginnings,
      expectations looming ahead
      I surrender to
      whatever comes
      Knowing it is all good,
      Serves a purpose
      Sharpens senses
      Renders me
      an adventurer
      an explorer
      an excavator
      Treasures ahead.

    4. Love it Annis! Thanks for sharing. I discovered something today while reading a lot of these poems that is fascinating to me. I read a poem straight through then something spurred me to read it backwards. Not word for word but line by line. It changes them but I find them as interesting to read backwards as forwards. Try it and let me know what you think.

  6. Er.. don't quite see a linky for day 1 :) Good to join in, I heard a little late, but I've caught up with the first three prompts.

    Day 1's is here: http://artofleo.wordpress.com/2012/10/01/new-beginnings/

    Cheers...

    1. It is because we weren't doing a daily linky but had the link up page. We decided by the end of the first day that we wanted to do a daily linky up instead of just having a general link up. Thank you for sharing your link. Also the Link ups typically are only scheduled to put in new links for two days after they are posted.

Glad to have you join us!

  7. For just a moment, I am pretending I am going back in time to one month ago and beginning... with a Limerick:

    I am a beginner, it's true...
Excited for all I will do.
    I get a great start
    Then things fall apart.
    'Cause my problem's poor follow-through.
