Poetry Prompt - Transformation

Spring is awakening full force here on the east coast of the United States. Trees are showing a beautiful range of greens and many flowers are in the early blooming stages, coloring the landscape in lovely hues. Whether you're in the northern hemisphere witnessing the same blooming that I am or below the equator watching the fall colors take over the land, seasonal changes are a time of transformation.

As these transformations unfold before my eyes, I am reminded of the need for contrast. Without the dull greys of winter, I may not notice and appreciate the glorious colors of spring. Without the overbearing heat and humidity of summer, I might not enjoy the cooling breezes and fiery colors of autumn. Contrast brings balance.

I need noise to appreciate the silence.
I need crowds to appreciate being alone for awhile.

This week's prompt is a form challenge to encourage us to embrace this world of contrasts.

The Prompt: Select two contrasting words. They can be (but don't have to be) opposites. Use these two words to begin a Diamante poem, transforming from one to the other in just a few short lines.

Word Prompt(s): Transformation, contrast, balance

Happy writing!

  1. I'm confused by this poetry prompt.
If diamante poetry usually starts with one word and were supposed to start it with two, does that change the word count on the other lines? Thank you for your time.

    1. My apologies for not responding sooner! My intention was for you to choose one word, but then through the diamante poem transform to its opposite. I hope this clarifies the prompt!
