Poetry Prompts - Picture's Worth A Thousand Words

I'm keeping this one short.

With everything that has been going on this last week here in the U.S., I thought today we could write a poem around the photo below, after all, they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

  1. What a great Lady she is as she reaches toward the sky
For she beckons to the world especially to you and I
To let us know our country is still great
In spite of all of the bitterness and hate
For the political system may be broken to a considerable degree
But the Democratic process still works for you and for me
We will have still a peaceful transition next month
In spite of many who will still be in a funk
Lady Liberty will tell us it is OK to feel as we must
And that we should pray for the mighty and just
For we don't know what the future holds for sure
But that Lady is hoping the new leaders will do what is noble and pure
This country is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination
And Lady Liberty is urging us to coalesce as a nation
Not to one party or woman or man as a retort
But we collectively as a people should verily take heart
For this great Lady is saying our Democracy is still strong and free
And we can be proud that we still live in the Land of the Free
